Who Filed Bankruptcy

Terms of service

Plain terms for a free site. If something here reads as though it were written to protect us at your expense, say so and it gets fixed.

What this site is

Who Filed Bankruptcy publishes US business bankruptcy filings taken from the federal courts' own public records, and explains what a filing means for somebody who is owed money by the company that filed. Every page, search and tool is free.

Nothing on this site is for sale. There is no account, no subscription, no price and no payment form anywhere. If a page appears to ask you for money in our name, it is not us, and we would like to know about it at hello@whofiledbankruptcy.com.

What this site is NOT

A name match is not an identity

Company names repeat across states and across unrelated businesses, and a subsidiary rarely files under the name printed on an invoice. Before you act on anything here, confirm the court, the case number and the company address against the docket.

If a page is wrong about your company

Write in and it is corrected or taken down, the same day, without argument. This site publishes court records about named businesses and being wrong about one is the worst thing it could do. Email hello@whofiledbankruptcy.com with the page and what is wrong. You do not need to send a lawyer's letter first. See the contact page for the two categories of error we have already had to fix at scale.

Acceptable use

Read the pages, run the searches, print what you find, show it to your lawyer or your customer. That is all intended. Do not scrape the site in bulk, do not present our pages as your own product, and do not use anything here to harass a person or a business.

No warranty, and what we are responsible for

The site is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be available without interruption, and we do not promise the records are complete, because they are not and we say so on every page. We are responsible for correcting our own errors promptly when they are pointed out. We are not responsible for decisions you make after reading a page, which is why every page that touches the law cites the primary source so you can check it yourself.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

How to reach a person

Email hello@whofiledbankruptcy.com. That address is read by the person who runs this site, not a ticket queue, and it is the fastest way to get anything fixed. There is a contact page with more on corrections.

Postal mail reaches us at:
